  1. Hi, I've been backing up most of my movies with this 2 week old writer that i just bought.

I bought a 50 pack of 4x high grade princo.-on the top of the pile all blanks burned fine-once i got to the bottom and tried to back up 13th warrior every single blank started giving me problems-60%, 90%, never 100%-just spits blanks out unfinished...

Writer seems fine -i didnt flash anything-it came with 1.07 pre installed firmware-is it a writer problem or media problem?

I bought blanks at a small private store so they migth've played around with defective batches and put some in good batches..

    Maybe, it something movie specific?

i tried both ways:dvd decrypter on iso mode (1 layer disk) and dvdshrink with no compression-no luck on both-what gives?

edit:finally managed to back up 13th warrior using dvdshrink-100% burn now-i took the blank from the very bottom of the batch-still had same series serial number-so i'm not sure really what went wrong-isit the burner or the media?

Welcome to Princo quality control. I found I've had more prob's with spindle Princo's (white tops) -R 4x then most other blanks. Some times they are perfect and some times they will not finalize (Pioneer A05). I got about 35% on the last spindle I bought. The previous spindle was 70-80% good. I stop using Princo's now, just can not waste the time and effort in using them. I just buy Ritek/Ridata when I can get them for -R media. I've mainly use 4x +R (RICOHJPNR01) Memorex now and get about 95% good burns with Plex 708a burner at 8x. Just check the media ratings to the left. When you find a media that works well for you then stick with it. I found most of the bulk media (non branded) have been a waste of both time and money. Its bad that you can not depend on the media and have to review each disc burn completely. Thats just in my case. Friend uses the same Princo's in his LG 4040 and they seems to work OK

I dont think the store would put some bad discs in with the good, they cant tell what is bad and what is good unless there is some cosmetic flaw on the disk itself. But who knows

  3. no cosmetic flaws on the disks actually..

the first 4x princo 25pack i bought at a different store worked flawlessly though

this pack i got at some crap store on sale so maybe that was the case...

i'll try another store where i bought the first pack from so if all is good i'll continue with princos because they are pretty good price/quality wise

  5. Welcome to the Princo-world.

You shouldn't burn them at 4x.
    Try 2xspeed instead
    Quote Quote
  6. Yeah- i guess the remainder of tha spindle i'll have to finish off at 2x

How about the longevity of princos?

if you store them dust, sun free -will they last for a substantial time period?

    10+ years
