I intend to buy a Asus TV Tuner Card, but since I live in Brazil, here we have the PAL-M color system on TV broadcast, so I need a card that recognizes it.
The question is...Asus TV Tuner Card can deal with this system ?
I was looking for some information on Asus Website and the card manual. Here is what I found... (all related about the NTSC model)
" - Global video standards support (NTSC/PAL/SECAM) "
" International TV systems and standards
Be sure that the TV Tuner Card model that you purchased is appropriate
for the system and standard of the country where you will be installing TV Tuner Card. For example, you should have a NTSC model if you plan to use your TV Tuner Card in countries with NTSC systems, or PAL/SECAM systems. "
OK...here is what makes me wonder...
It says that Asus support PAL systems. But this "PAL" includes PAL-M too ?
What you guys think ?

Thanks!

I've no experience of the Asus cards but if it says it is capable of PAL and SECAM (which is the very dodgy system used in France and stands for Sometimes Even Colour Appears Momentarily) you would think it would be capable of all different breeds of PAL. In saying that, the software for my ATI AIW does PAL B, D, G, H, I, K and L but not M. Whereas using the capture module of Ulead Mediastudio Pro 6.5, I can select PAL-M and N in addition to the others. It sounds like it is a software rather than hardware limitation.
I suggest you contact Asus (or the importer) in Brazil and ask them. If you get a card intended for the Brazilian market, it should be OK. -
Yes...but I guess that capture and tuning (a tv) would be a different thing...first is more software, second, more hardware...
I intend to buy on a USA website. So, I guess that the only option would be contact Asus and just hope to get some reply... -
Just one more thing to add here...
The PixelView PlayTV PVR supports PAL-M, and this card have the same chip that Asus TV Tuner have ( Conexant CX23883 ). This means that since Asus have the same chip, it will support PAL-M too ?

It does support PAL M if you buy it from your country...

If you buy from a USA website it probably won't support PAL at all. They only use NTSC.

Well, I can only say that I own another asus, 7700 Deluxe, and it supports PAL - M, if that helps...
-
yeah, I own a Asus V8200 and it supports too
I remember my Vodoo 3500... The things I had to do to make Pal-M works... wow... -
Ok... I bougth this card yesterday and here is all the information I can
provide you with :
The card supports both NTSC and PAL but ! THE TV TUNER support
only NTSC (at least the US version) .
You can however capture and watch TV (PAL) with this card
by connecting a VCR or any other TV TUNER (such as cable decoder)
via the RCA cable (the 3 colors cable - yellow, white and red)
You can not plug in an antena cable and watch TV (pal-tv) becasue
the T.V tuner is NTSC .
If you want to buy a PAL Version try to go to: http://www.pchardware.co.il/docs/search.htm , search for ASUS TV.
i am not sure they do international deliveries but try ...

Nice info, but better report it to VCDhelp's Capture Card database (on the left)
