I have the Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-C2502 in a Dell Inspiron 8100 notebook. When I play a DVD-R disc, it slows down to a still frame every few seconds. Has anyone had this problem? If so, what did you do about it?
**Dell has a firmware update, but I could not understand how to complete it. Could it be the brand of DVD-R used? Someone sent this to me, so I don't know the brand.
Thanks

Yes, it could be the brand of media used, but there are ways around that. Since this only happens on burned DVDs, I think we can rule out a dirty lens in the drive.
What I would do is burn your movies at a lower speed from now on until you get a different brand of media. This should get rid of the problem with future movies.
Stick with brand name media for DVDs, it's important. -
If I click on Properties, it says "Philips_DVD_VR". Is this refering to the type of DVD-R or the recorder that was used? Acccording to Toshiba, this drive will only play DVD-R.

No, this is just the name Windows sees for your drive. Like I said, try bruning these movies at a lower speed, I'm betting the problem will go away.
