5.1-Channel Input Home Theater

I have been a lurker for a while, I sell and rent DVDs from my store in suburban Chicago, and this has been my go-to forum. Anyway..........
I am researching cheap DVD/surround systems for my mom.
The one I have does the job great, but I bought it used off a friend and never looked into the specs of one of these units. My question does not have too much relavence to this forum so I am looking to either get lucky with a link to another forum or a quick answer,

In the specs it say's 5.1-channel input.....NO.
Now I am wondering what that is refering to because the more expensive models have it?

My google searches have turned up squat, so help is greatly appreciated.

"5" is the 5 speakers while the ".1" refers to the sub. 50 watts per channel. I don't really like buying a combo unit. One part goes then you are out of luck but, I think that setup will get your mom there.
