Should one be able to rip a dvd with dvddecrypter, transfer only the main movie files to the hdd and then copy these as data files using ez cd/dvd creator. Is this different than creating an image of the main movie files?

Why would you do this process, what are you trying to do? lots of movies (movie only files) are too large to fit on a dvdr. rip with dvd decrypter, run files through shrink, use img tools to burn video_ts folder to iso, burn iso with dvd decrypter.

i'M trying to make back ups with dvdx copy. Not having much luck. Have been only able to copy and use one movie with it. I'm looking for other ways to backup. From your response I am assuming you do need an image to have a properly functioning back up dvd.

Well my solution was using free tools, and it will be much better than dvdxcopy junk.

So its a 4 step process just to copy and burn a Dvd?

    1- Rip with dvd decryptor
2- Run files through Dvd Shrink
3- Img tools to burn ts folder to iso
4- dvd decryptor to burn to dvd

No wonder DvdXcopy is so popular even though I dont like it.

    Yep.

Two clicks. Select the entire disc if you want, it will compress down to fit whatever you want onto that DVD-R.

Everything? 54 percent compression. Ditch some interviews? 64 percent. Ditch some other stuff? Maybe 70. (They seem to be using the word 'compression' incorrectly) but I don't care.. it just works.

The reason I picked DVDxCopy in the first place is because I was tired of fooling around with 4 different crapware programs.. the entire process just took entirely too long that way.

  7. really its 3 steps rip shrink burn. ya its really hard to do it and its takes forever. only way this would be hard is if you can't read. i think it takes me like 45 minutes to do the process.

I have DVDXCopy and CopyXpress and if you use Decrypter and then Shrink you will like the results much better. #1 is Decrypter, then #2 is run Shrink, then I always delete the foreign language audio files and other that I don't want ( just uncheck them), then click on back up and select deep analysis. When that has run, burn with Nero 6 or higher. Great results and well worth the extra time and steps over 321 software.

I fail to see why folks use ImgTools. I've been making backups for months using DVD Decrypter, DVD2One, and DVD Shrink and have never needed to add in that extra unnecessary step.

Is it merely to make it possible to burn with decrypter? Most people have a cd burner these days, and the software that comes with it can usually burn dvd's as well.
