  1. I use Toast to burn DVD-Rs on my 12" PB, running 10.3.2. Very often, I get a problem during verification after a successful burn. A message will appear to say there is a failure to read sector no..., and that verification failed. What are the main reasons for this? I use good media like Verbatim/Maxell and I do get successful verifications sometimes.

I have done a search on this forum but don't seem to have found any definitive answers to this problem.

There can be several reasons for the verification error. I suggest going to the Roxio Toast 6 discussion forum and searching some of freshburn's replies to verification error posts. If you don't see an answer that works for you, post your question there.

typically its media problems. Though those are good brands, you can get some that are more iron clad (TDK) as my favorite example

also, ive noticed that sometimes you get toast erros due to insufficient memory. Not sure if this related to verification burns or not though.

Personally, i would try some other media brands. If your new to dvd burning its a good idea to test as many brands as possible as you will see differences between them when it comes to things like this

but yes the toast forum is also a good place to get info

  4. I have not had a successful verification since my last posting, so out of desperation, I trashed Toast and all the related files in Preferences, and reinstalled Toast.

Works great after that with no more verification errors! Could it be that all along, something went cuckoo with Toast and it became a bad boy? Seems rather strange to me as I thought the software should not be the cause of verification errors. I have half a mind to use DVD Imager together with disk burn of Panther to see if I could create DVDs without using Toast.

Anyone knows if Panther will also verify a disk after burning using Finder?

verification on cd's i know for a fact, so you would assume a dvd will be verified

For what it's worth I don't think I have EVER had a successful Toast6.03 verification of a DVD (CDs verify OK though), and all of those DVDs have been watched many times (and in some cases re-ripped to make a 2nd gen copy) without any problems.

The upshot of this is that I just click cancel when I get to the verification stage these days (unless I'm away from the PC, in which case I _always_ return to find a 'verification failed' message) - the DVD still works fine though.

    My 2c,
