  1. I ordered a couple of dvd's from a site and they are on TDK recordable DVDs. Now they work fine on regular DVD players but I can't watch them on my computer. I use WinDVD software for watching DVD's on my PC. It doesn't even recognize that there is a disc in the dvd drive of my computer. Do I need a special type of program to play it?

Does your DVD-Rom support DVD-R? Do you even have a DVD-ROM drive?

What model of DVD-ROM drive does your PC have? I've had this problem with discs I've sent to friends with older (1st and 2nd-generation) DVD-ROM drives, particularly Creative ones. Just as the 1st and 2nd-generation CD-ROM drives didn't handle CD-R media well (and wouldn't read CD-RW at all!), the early-generation DVD-ROM drives don't seem to handle recordable DVD-R media well either.

If it's a recent model (within the last couple of years) and still won't read DVD-R's, then I'd say the drive is defective.

I have a new 16x DVDROM that read all my DVD-R's. It also rips at 2x.

I have an oooooold 8x DVDROM that won't read my DVD-r's but it rips at 2.9x-7.8x .

Tough call, but I can always read my DVD-R's in my DVDRW.
