  1. I have a friend that was backing up copies of my DVD's for me to DVDR. I was pleased with the copies so I decided to purchase a DVD +/- RW drive so I could do them myself.
My friend has been burning the DVD's to +R media, and my DVD player at home reads them fine. The problem is, when I burn a movie to +R media (exact same blank DVD's and software that he uses) my DVD player will not read them. I can burn the DVD's to -R media and my player reads them fine. Has anyone had this problem before? I have gone through two DVD +/- RW drives and both had the same issue.
He has no clue why his copies work with +R media and mine do not. He has verified that my settings in Nero are the same.
    Any info is appreciated.

  2. well sounds to me that your dvd player dosen't play +r only -r. look up your dvd player under dvdplayers compatiblity and user comments.pver to the left of the screen under other. <---------

  3. But why would his copies on +R media work in my drive?

Here is the case... He is able to burn copies to +R media and my DVD player reads them fine.

I burn a copy of a move to +R media, and my DVD drive will not read them.

We use the exact same software and our settings are the same. The only difference is that he has an HP DVD +R RW burner and I have a Pioneer DVD+/- RW burner.

  5. Hi wall,
Your friend's HP burner supports bitsetting, yours does not. His discs are probably burned with the DVD-ROM booktype, yours are burned with the DVD+R booktype. Your DVD player reads the lead in to the disc you burned and is looking for the DVD-ROM booktype. Instead it finds the DVD+R booktype and you are probably geting a disc error message. check out this link for more info; https://www.videohelp.com/glossary#BitSetting. Hope this clears up the mystery.

  6. You da man!

Your resolution (along with information on the provided links) applies directly to my situation.

It states that HP DVD +R (my friends drive type) drives automatically set the Bit Type as DVD-ROM where almost ALL other drives default to DVD+R. I have downloaded a tool to change the bit set and will post my results in case anyone else has this issue.

    Thanks again.
