  1. Hey all,
Im gonna get my first dvd player. After researching the market in my country taking both features and cost into account ive narrowed my choice to the two listed dvd's(sony dvp ns730 and philips dvd 727). i would like people who have or have seen the players performance to give me there views and opinions regarding the two.
    my doubts are
    1. is the sony a choosy player ie does it have trouble with certain formats.
    2. is video quality of sony way better than the philips giving it an advantage?
    3. I dont see a DTS decoder spec in philips . Is it there?
4.sony does not have zoom . Do u miss this feature during routine use?
    im confused

There is no DTS decoder in the 727. Other than that, I think the Philips 727 is great - it played everything I threw at it.

If you are outputting the digital audio to a DTS-capable audio system, then it doesn't matter....but in my case, I was outputting to a 2.1 computer speaker set....although I was using the coaxial out, my speakers were not DTS-capable....so, when I was playing a DVD that had only DTS audio, I was unable to get any audio out with the Philips.

  3. hi lisa,
Thank u for that information . It seems odd that philips have not provided a way to hear sound from a dts dvd. A lot of movies use the format. someone else may have a way around that problem. some of the sites advertising 727 have included a dts decoder as part of the package but not the official sites. bye
