Can anyone tell me what util's are out for this drive? I have downloaded the Booktype for LiteOn drives, can anyone tell me what this actually does to a DVD? Also, I hear people saying about a -r 8x speed firmware hack and also a program to change the bit settting? What is the bitsetting?
Help would be MUCH appreciated!
Thanks

The booktype settings are bitsettings for dvd burnings which are set by the program you got which sets the booktype that dvd`s are set to when burned,so what you do is start up the booktype program and hit the query button and change booktype to dvd-rom so when you burn the dvd+r it will be recognized as a dvd-rom and most dvd players will play the dvd then. You run this program before you burn and then after you reboot. Also i wouldnt change to 8x due to the fact that some 811s might not be set right to the calibration of the 8x patch.Make sure you have the newest firmware or the booktype setting program wont work for you.

Thanks for the reply mate, so this book type program will only work with +r discs? At the moment I only have -r so I cannot try it yet? I am having problems with my g/f's dvd player, it won't read any of my -r disc, these are Ritek 04's so if I get some +r's run this program while im burning it should play in her dvd player?
So getting this bitrate setting util should help backup dvds play in most dcd players?
Thanks for the help mate -
I use the program for dvd-r just to make sure but most of the people at the liteon cd-freaks forum talk about using this for the dvd+r and dont say much about using it on dvd-r,give it a try and see what happens,my dvd player plays both dvd-/+ r without needing the booktype so i dont know if it will make a difference on the dvd-r but it does make the dvd+r that didnt work in my dad`s dvd player work now.

Appreciate you help mate. You said there is a Liteon forum? Do you know the url for that, I will give that a quick look! Cheers again.
While were on the subject, what +r's discs do you recommend? At the moment I am using Datasafe w/ritek 04's, very good 100% sucess! -

I go to my local stereo store such as future shop or walmart.
-
No problem, maybe someone from the forum where you live might know where to get some good deals on dvdr blanks.
-
There are local places where I live (Peterborough) such as PC World which are WAY to expensive to be honest other than that I don't know anywhere which sells half-decent quality discs?
-
Try a search for online stores, not sure what you can find but there will be some good deals on the web.

See this earlier thread in the media forum:

I bought 25 Datasafe+R discs from www.ukdvdr.co.uk/ - highly recommended.
Also in the same thread somebody suggested :
http://blankdiscshop.co.uk/
Also with regard to utilities for the drive there's a great region free tool which you can find in the Liteon forum johns0 gave.
