  1. Has anyone have any warnings for me who have had experience with this model?

As long as the picture quality is at least 90 percent as good as the vhs tapes and sat signal I am recieving I think I would be happy.

One question I have is if I record say a three hour program in the best mode, is it possible to split that up to three dvds so I can load them into my computer?

I read that you will get a better overall quality if you record in best mode and then dvd shrink it down to fit onto one dvd?

Yes. You can create Play List (Copy List) where you can divide (not fisicaly only for Copy List) title and High-Speed dub it to DVD. This is what I learned from manual.

  3. From what I have read 510 PAL version is very good is SP mode but the NTSC version is not so good. It seem's the editting commercial's take long on the Pioneer 510 then it does on the Panasonic E80H you can do some more reading at

Pioneer 510 is a 4X burner. Panasonic E80H is 1X Some say Panasonic picture is alot better next best first would be Sony.

I have talk to another member on this site who has the 510 and love's it and record's ever thing in XP mode and recoder's the video to fit on DVD-R said it works great. If your in the market to buy a recorder look at the Panasonic E80H I got mine at www.6ave.com and work's great. Or go to http://www.shopharmony.com/ for the Pioneer 510 they have the lost price in town. These store's are NTSC USA seller's

  6. Video editting bring it to the PC is the same Pioneer use DVD-RW Panasonic DVD-RAM. I now love DVD-RAM I bought the LG 8X burner at www.newegg.com DVD-RAM on the PC work's just like a hard drive. I download all my software to DVD-RAM. Really nice to just download the software right on DVD-RAM no more backing it up from the hard drive.

The quality of the recorded dvd's from digital satellite are great, and yes you can divide a program into 3 parts ( or more ) and record to seperate dvd's

  9. jb: How do you have your 510 connected? I have digital satellite too (directv) and was curious how to go about setting up for best quality. (just got my 510 today) S-VHS and composite audio outs from sat receiver to line 1 input on 510? Have you tried recording from VHS yet? Made any back-ups from dvd-r to HDD (and back to dvd-r)?
