I am having some problems with audio synch in going from AVI to VCD. The audio has never really been in synch with the video, but I had hoped that through this encoding process it could be fixed. The orginal file had AC3 audio, so I converted that to MP2 along with the video into M1V. Then through ffmpegX I tried to mux it but the audio quickly became a few seconds off of what was the correct length and so the video was out of synch. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

The AVI was probably encoded at a framerate of 25fps or 23.976fps. Sync issues occur when you try to convert a 23.976fps file to a 25fps VCD, or a 23.976gps file to a 29.976fps VCD. It's best to stick with the original framerate of the AVI source.

However, if you use Toast to encode the video, it does some sort of frame duplicating to maintain sync. If your AVI plays back in QuickTime with smooth video and synchronized audio, Toast can convert it.

Someone else may be able to help you with the specific details about your situation... However there should be a lot of older threads that cover nearly every solution to this age-old problem.

  3. Check versiontracker.com for synchole. It will help you get the file in sync so you can encode it.

I tried using Toast but the encoded file was not in synch. As for synchole, I think it will fix my problem, but I can't seem to figure out what to do in the program once I have put in all of the edits I need. How do I get the file to show these edits in Quicktime? The Save As.. option doesn't make a whole new copy of the movie with the edits included, which is what I want.

    Thanks,

it will when you set the preferences to "save as independent"
the resulting file will then be saved as .xxx.mov
