I live in Brazil (region 4) and I don't know how my DVD711 was unlocked, since I bought it done. I don't have these special remote controllers to unlock the regions.

Is a firmware generic and independent of language, pal/ntsc and region settings? Does updating the firmware resets the region-free and original region status of my DVD711?

My dvd has been acting strange, skipping scenes, locking up and not recognizing discs preventing them to start up (sometimes ejecting them afterwards). I've been reading horror stories of Philips support here and that's the reason I'm thinking of trying updating.

Is v7.27 recommendable?
