Making home DVD’s from Sony camcorder TRV11 miniDV tapes like there’s no tomorrow….
Hardware:
Standalone player – Liteon LVD-2002 ($129) from PcClub
DVD Burner – Liteon LWD-451s ($79) after rebates from BestBuy
Camcorder – Sony CCD TRV11, miniDV 60min tapes in sp mode
Software:
Sonic myDVD suite that comes with the burner.
Fun part:
First, I have to thank all you wonderful people out here in this forum who have taken the time out to post your views, guides, tips, tricks… it’s been a great help and very informative in making decisions about all things DVD.
IMO, I like these liteon things they work for me and are good bang for the buck. Takes about 1hr to download the video from the camcorder to the hd using the bundled sonic myDVD software and another 20~30 mins to create the menus, burn dvd etc.
Pretty good for first timers who want to go from How-to-WOW!!! in a few clicks. I look good at home now with the family. I am churning out all these dvd’s faster than they can keep up watching it hee heee Good “Honey Factor” you might get a 5 or 6 rating on a scale of 0-5, 5 being the best “Oh you are so sweet” Your mileage may vary.
Made the LDW-2002 region & macro…. free by pressing Open, 2960 on the remote and then selecting 0 for the region and off for macro…
Haven’t tried playing any region stuff yet, except for the ones available here and they play great. Just returned a Sony 725p player which cost the same but this liteon has more features like wma, mpeg4 and divx support PLUS the NTSC and PAL thingy… because we plan to exchange videos with parents who live in a PAL country.
Had problems with getting Date-Time stamp on the finished movies, it seems that there is no way (YET, I mean cheap and free way, preferably free, if it’s free I will take two please) to get it on a dvd movie from these DV camcorders, the info is present on the stuff but something stupid along the way cannot understand it. It shows fine on the LCD of the camcorder when you play it but won’t show it in the capture window or the final movie. Lost some precious rating points on this one bummer!!! Would have got a perfect 10 (on a scale of 0-5 hee heee)
What else can I say, I am smiling (hope it lasts for a long long time with respect to these liteon things) Please feel free to ping me if you have any questions about any of the above, I will try my best to answer.
Regards.

Hummer,
awesome news. BTW, about the date/time thing. If you have access to any video editing software (look in tools to see if there are free ones), you can add title cards to the videos and overlay them onto the video.
For ex. in Adobe Premiere, you can drop a title card onto the video in any font/shape right onto the video. Then just save it and burn. -
Hummer-H2, give DV Time Stamp a try.
