  1. I have been using this guide to convert 700mb xvids and I am just about as happy as you can get with the results however I now have a problem.

I have a few movies that are 1400mb (2x 700mb joined) the specs for one of the movies I have listed below:

    Size- 1,397 MB
    Codec -XVID
    Bitrate- 1212 kb/
    FPS- 23.97
    Length- 01:57:17
    Screen- 640 x 272 (~ 7 : 3 )
Sound- ac3 (0x2000) Dolby Laboratories, Inc
    Sound Bitrate- 448 kb/s

Upon playback the encoded dvd (or m2v) plays jerky/jittery like there are frames or half frames missing, this happens all the way through though more noticable at faster sequences in the movie (even on stand-alone dvd player). The bitrate I used was 4742 and I did the encoding exactly as the NTSC Movie 23,976 settings are in the guide (I didn't convert the frame rate). I have just started it encoding again changing the DC component precision to 10 hoping it may improve things but I can't help thinking that it is the size that's the problem .

    Awaiting sage-like advice.

  2. Using the same conversion tools and procedure I encountered the same problem. However, I discovered that the original source file (xvid) was similarly jerky when played back in Mediaplayer. I guess the DVD file never gets any better than the source file.

  3. FPS- 23.97
possibly this is the issue as dvd is 29.97. Icant remember right now, but are you doing the 3:2 pulldown. Basically, what the guide says here:

If your source FPS is 23,976 (the FPS from Gspot)
    1. Right click on Frame rate and select unlock
    2. Change the frame rate to 23,976
    3. Change the bitrate to Constant Bitrate
    4. Set the Bitrate to the calculated bitrate
    5. Set Encode mode to 3:2 Pulldown
    leave everything else to default.
