  1. I'm a new camcorder owner and my TRV33 has a red microphone jack as well as a green jack that says "Plug In Power." I want to buy a microphone for this camcorder. Can I buy a mic that only has one male plug for the audo signal, or do I need a dual plug that also contains a power jack? What does the powered part do? Thanks!

  2. Suggest a close review of your camcorder's manual to learn/lnow what each of the ports are really for. And, the manual may also have some detailed info on external mic requirements.... could save you some time/money/headaches.

if no manual, you might find a d/l version in sony's support web pages..

  3. My manual is terrible- classic Sony. The only mention of the microphone ports is on a diagram showing a picture of my camcorder. There is no other technical explanatory information available. A search of 'microphone' came up empty on Sony's support site too!

You just need a single male jack microphone. Most of the microphones require a battery to operate. I got the sony ecm-ms908c external microphone for my sony minidv and it works excellent.
