Hacker creates poll chaos

A COMPUTER hacker has registered the website peterbeattie.com and linked the Labor premier to the National Party's official website.

When an internet surfer types in the Queensland Premier's name as a web address they are immediately referred to the Nationals' official site www.npa.org.au.

The hacker, who declined to be named but goes by the alias 'Jenny Dots', told AAP today there was a political motive behind the site, but would not elaborate.

"Jenny Dots wants to make a political statement," he said.

"It's a little bit of chaos to drive a point."

He said a further website would be launched in the coming weeks.

Queensland premier Peter Beattie called a state election for 7 February yesterday.

National Party state director Roger Harcourt said he had warned the hacker to sever the link to the party's website.

Mr Harcourt said the matter would be referred to the Australian Federal Police.

"We want him to stop," Mr Harcourt said.

Mr Beattie's official website is teambeattie.com.

Last time I checked it wasn't exactly illegal or hard to register a domain name. What exactly makes this person a computer 'hacker'?

I have no idea what makes this guy a hacker - but he uses a computer and he's, apparently, causing bother so it was a choice between hacker or peodo. They went with hacker.
