  1. I have a Toshiba sd3800 and its pretty finiky on dvdrs. It plays them, but there are quite a few pauses on just about every dvdr i have. Ive been using Memorex dvd-r (4x) with a sony dru-530a burner. The program I use is xcopy plat. My question is what exactly is causing these pauses/skips? Is it the discs? I thought memorex were pretty good, but ive heard some of you round here say they are not. I know ive burner hundreds of memorex cdrs, and never once did I have a problem. Ive also heard alot of bad on xcopy, and even some bad on sony dvd burners. Should I use new media, or is there a dvd player that doesnt cost to much that I could pick up that will play the discs better?

    thanks.

  2. Where do you live ?

I have recently picked up a Ronin 215 for about £45 from SVP here in the UK that plays anything, including raw MPEG2 files, displays photos, plays MP3's... but most importantly for you, has played every blank that I've thrown at it.

At that price the styling and build quality isn't as good as the £150+ players, although to be fair it's only really the remote that feels a little flimsy, but in many respects it's better than my Sony that cost me £mega a few years back. It also does NTSC / PAL reframing and is region free from the handset / minor firmware upgrade available online from RMWX.

  3. when i first started burning dvd's, i used memorex dvd-r's.. they really really sucked.. since then i've used apple, ritek, verbatim & samsung beall's.. never had a problem with any of them.. you can usually point to crappy media when playback problems arise.

The pauses are the dvd player trying to read the poorly burned sections of the media struggling to get past those points.

I too have been experiencing playback problems on my dvd player when burning to dvd-r disks ( jerking, pausing etc ) this normally occurs about 1 hour into the movie, ive been trying various brands of media such as infiniti, bulkpaq, i am now about to test the Ritek brand which i have been told are the business ill let you all know of my outcome.

  6. so why is the media poorly burned on sections of the disc? is it due to the burner, or is it the media.

I live in the US. But that dvd player sounds sweet.

i appreciate everyone who helped me out here, and id appreciate some feedback on those Riteks you just bought. Ive heard alot of people praise them, and some others say they are not all that. I dont know what the deal is with Memorex dvds. Like I said in about 2 to 300 burns not one coaster on anyone of my cds that were all memorex.

    thanks!

Memorex -R's are known to have issues. Many of these discs were manufactured by CMC, which we all know makes cheapo media. That's prolly where yer problem lies.

I like the Memorex +R tho. They're made by Ricoh and work every time for me.
