  1. As a small project I'm recording concert VHS bootlegs to DVD.

I noticed something a bit unusual during the capture process. A particular show has strobe light effects that are pitch black at certain points on the video... The problem is this, right when the lighting comes back up instantly, the capture freezes at a certain frame (and skips a few before capturing again)... This happens at every instance it's pitch black. I'm using Huffyuv codec through VirtualDUB.

Is this unsual behavior? Can I change anything in Vdub's (or the codec's) settings to ignore whatever it's trying to "interpret" out of this capture?

    You're kidding, right?

  3. I suppose I didn't explain this good enough.

Imagine being in a venue completely pitch black for about 10 seconds. All of a sudden the lighting comes back on (remember, the lights are ON), but just for that first one FULL second... nothing seems to move. Only after that one second everything is in motion again.

This is what my captured video looks like. My question is simply why this happens and if there's a way to change it.

You explained yourself very clearly. I was the one a little too vague. Let me elaborate:
    Do NOT give warez.

Do NOT link to warez .

    Do NOT ask for warez.

Do NOT provide information how to obtain warez.

    Do NOT advocate warez.

Warez includes downloaded copyrighted movies, movies that are not yet released on VHS/DVD and copying rented movies.
    Any questions?
    Hello.

Normally, I would apologize. But since I am "old school", I will not, because I was taught the only person who can legally bootleg is a quarterback in football.

    One entry found for bootleg.

    Main Entry: 2bootleg
    Function: verb
    Date: 1900
    transitive senses
1 a : to carry (alcoholic liquor) on one's person illegally b : to manufacture, sell, or transport for sale (alcoholic liquor) illegally
2 a : to produce, reproduce, or distribute illicitly or without authorization b : SMUGGLE
    intransitive senses
1 : to engage in bootlegging
2 : to run a bootleg play in football
    - boot·leg·ger noun
    -- Merriam - Webster
    Hello.

  7. I was laughing at first but now I understand a bit behind what you meant. Not this is not copyrighted material nor is it going to be released (the term bootleg threw you off, sorry). This is a videotaped concert recording of a Manson concert (save me the Hate-Manson-Fan responses).

The taping of his shows is perfectly fine as it is encouraged. Although there are some bands that refuse to let them be taped nor allow the distribution of taped shows. There are some people who trade shows for others, which is also fine (as long as you don't sell them for profit).

Well if anyone has any comments about my original question...

Anyway, it looks like you're going to have to "bone up" on AviSynth. Since VDub has problems with the lighting, AviSynth encodes frame by frame, and looks like the choice in your case.
    Hello.
