Cutting my previously long story short, I've returned my Digitrex 9000 (Apex DRX9000) and got my money back. I spoke to Digitrex here in Australia and they said that a firmware upgrade is not available for the GKX9000 and that the FW upgrade for the Apex DRX9000 is not applicable to this machine, despite the fact we know that it's a rebadged Apex. They said they have nothing to do with Apex and the units are completely different. What crap! They said a FW upgrade will not be released. I told them if that's their attitude then I'll return the unit and get my money back, which I did. Such great customer support!

I'm looking around for something else now. Has anyone heard of the Omni DW2530 DVD Recorder??? Apparently it has the same remote region code as the Digitrex. This unit may be under another brand in the states & the UK, but is released here under the name of Omni. If anyone knows anything about this unit could you let us know.

    Cheers,

    Andy S.

That sucks. I still think it was user problems (not you, but those helping you) and not the unit, when it came to the firmware updates.

I've been using my APEX DRX-9000 for two weeks straight now, averaging about 3-4 hours per day, nothing but great quality so far. It's doing it job very well. Can use discs as-is or rip IFO in DVD Decrypter, edit VOB in Womble and then save as an MPEG that can be read by any number of authoring programs.

Yeah it certainly does suck. I was actually pretty happy with the 9000 aside from the two issues, too much brightness and copy protection popping up on a non-copy protected tape.

I had a look at a Hyundai unit (not sure of the model number) and it was crap. It had a nice slim design, good quality casing, but all the menu's were real basic stuff and hard to manouver around. The TV tuner only tuned in 1 of 5 free-to-air stations and I manually tuned 2 others that I could find, but one of them was in black & white. (Oddly enough I had a similar issue on the Digitrex 9000 with another staion that I could only get in black & white???).

    My search goes on!
