    Hello

I am capturing MiniDV streams using WInDV ( excellent tool) and using Ulead Video Studio 7SE to create the SVCD. The capture looks excellent, but when create the SVCD, playback has outlines around the people and the quality is poor.

I am using an AMD Duron 1GHz, 256MB RAM and Plextor 12x CD Writer. Playback is on a Sony NS 725. Is this just a fact of life of SVCD;s and I will get better playback quality if I encode to DVD?

    Thanks

I suspect the problem is with Ulead Video Studio. Try using a dedicated encoder like Canopus Procoder or TMPGenc.

  3. Svcd can (and does) rival dvd playback when the source is excellent and the encoder is good. The final thing is bitrate .. give it enough bits (2520 CBR) and you cant go wrong.
Try encoding the same capture to 3 dif resolution VCD, svcd and dvd
IMHO use vcd if time and quality are not paramount, and if no dvd burner
use DVD if quality is paramount + dvd burner
use SVCD for better than vcd quality but no dvd burner.

  4. SVCD encoding in Ulead Video Studio will produce bad quality. You can just edit the video in Ulead Video Studio and then produce the final project in DV format. Then encode the DV file in TMPGenc as SVCD. That will give you good results.
