Playing ASF and WMV streaming videos??

Hi! Please! I need a help!
I can't play WMV or ASF files in my PC. I can't play streaming online videos in websites either! I've tried to install Windows media player 6.4 codecs, tried to install media player 7.1, but nothing, always the same thing: audio plays fine but the video is a gray screen!
I downloaded a Microsoft Media Encoder 7.1 and i can see the video images while is converting, but when i try to see it in Windows Media Player 6.4 or convert in another program (like EO Video or TMPGEnc) the gray screen come back again!
Please.. somebody help me!!

You might need the WMV 9 decoder... or maybe a new version of direct X.
