Hi I am a total newbie at this kinda thing. I downloaded some short films from the internet in .mpg format. I used TMPGEnc to encode the files to VCD. I am not sure whether .mpg is already the required format to create VCDs! However, I encoded them anyway. I have checked to make sure that my DVD player is compatable with VCDs. However, when I try and play the VCDs I have made I get an error message saying 'bad disc'. I have the CyberHome ADl-528 DVD player. It is really starting to annoy me because I am crap on computers but I really want this to work.

    Please Help! :P

    Thanx, christaltips

  2. Will your player play CDR's ok. Some will play VCD's but originals only, not burned ones.

Hey thanx very much for replying to my topic Craig. I forgot to mention that I have also made sure that my DVD player is compatable with CD-Rs and CD-RWs.

Can anyone else help me please?

    Thanx, christaltips

  4. Did you burn it as a VCD, using software such as nero. You cant just copy the mpeg file to a disc as data. It has to be authored as a VCD.

I used Easy Cd creator to copy the files onto CD. I am going to try and find a copy of Nero though from one of my friends and see if that helps.

    Thanx for your help.

  6. Only the deluxe version of easy cd creator can create VCD's. I would still advise you to use nero over this.

Does it matter what version of Nero I have to create Vcds? Do I have to have a certain version?

  8. Go for the newest version you can get. If your running XP you need ver 5.5.8.0 or above. Dont worry if you have a lower version you can donload the upgrade off the internet.

like most any electronic gizmo, the reasons for some discs not playing can be many.

probably the first thing is to make sure those "bad" disks are clean and free of scratches. you can clean them , but can't remove scratches.
to clean, use a very mild soap and plenty of fresh rinse water. gently dry with soft lintfree towel, avoiding rubbing in a circle around the disk. Let disk finish completely drying before trying again in player.

another common reason is your player not being compatable with certain types of non-commercial disks, such as -rw/r or +rw/r. Usually your player users manual will tell you what types are ok.

there are many other reasons... if you have further questions, try a re-post here and include as much detail as you can. It's sorta hard to sit out here in cyberspace and read another poster's mind

One reason is that your player could be region locked and you are trying to play discs from a different region. What region is your player and what is the region of the discs you are trying to play.

Every time i play a dvd the screen goes blue, then it goes back on to the picture and then it flashes blue again, it does this all through the film. sometimes it stays blue for long and sometimes it just flashes. My dvd player says it will player dvd-r and dvd-rw but its the original dvd's that makes the screen go blue.

  13. Do you have it connected directly to your TV, or through a VCR. If you have it going through a VCR could be something like macrovision, although a blue screen is not the usual symptoms. If you do have it going through a VCR, connect your DVD player directly to your TV.
