  1. So I was bored today and was flicking through the cable channels and stumbled upon this gem of a channel. It has to be the most biast, right wing and one-eyed 'news' channel out there. I couldn't stop laughing at how funny it was.

Seriously though, how much credence is this channel given in the US?

I think Fox is more slanted to the US than say CNN. I'm cool with that though... I read both that and CNN.

It's the official channel of the Republican party. All TV's in the white house are permanently tuned to it although you must wear blinders to view it properly.
I think it's fair to say that most U.S. viewers know exactly what it is,a mouthpiece for right wing extremism. It's routinely the but of jokes by the late night shows like Jay Leno.

  4. I kind of guessed it was the affiliated with the Republican party after the umpteenth bashing of the Democrat candidate and the third showing of a piece on the training of a Navy Seal.

  5. It makes no bones of it's conservative slant. It's the most popular cable news network in the US, based on ratings, which means it's still tiny by comparison to broadcast news. But it is still bashed constantly, which means someone's afraid of it. It is owned by Australia's own Rupert Murdoch as is England's Sky News and The New York Post, I believe. Howard Dean has said he would break it up.

CNN was known as the Clinton News Network.

I think most Americans like the channel because of its constant bashing of the middle east (except Israel). Also, I see that Fox tries to go out of its way to connect Saddam with weapons of mass destruction and Osama. It also seems to go out of its way to call CNN biased and tries to bash CNN every chance they get. And its not like they say "some other network", they specifically say CNN.

  7. Fox news is the bomb! I dont watch anything else Talk about hot news babes!

    CNN is a joke...
    "Terminated!" :firing:

  8. LOL.......I watch Fox News as well. Gotta love its right wing stance. I like Bill O'reiley and Shepard Smith on there. However, to say its the most biast thing around is only part true. CNN is just as left wing as Fox is right wing. They bash one another whenever they can.

But for most of my news I watch The Daily Show with John Stuart. Top notch reporting there. :P :P :P

  9. the funniest thing about the fox news channel is that their slogan is "fair & balanced".. probably the most blatent lie told on a continous basis.. unless you count the lies told by bush & the republican party prior to the "iraq war" about WMD etc... but that was only for a limited amount of time.

    fox news is total crap

  10. I forget who wrote the book, but the title was funny as hell:
"Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look At the Right"

  11. I like how Fox News was trying to sue the Simpsons of the parody it did of it before being told that essentially it would be sueing themselves.

That book was written by comedian Al Franken. A Harvard grad with a very, very liberal viewpoint. While I don't share his views I do enjoy his humor.

Funny thing is that Fox tried to sue him for using "Fair & Balanced" in the title of his boook.

fox news wanted to sue the simpsons, but seeing as how they are kind of related the matter was dropped and the simpsons "crew" (or whatever) was given a slap on the hand. fox news said that viewers might get confused and think it was really fox news.. and y'know, i could actually see that happening with the retards who rely on fox news as a source of "news".. heh

The Fox News Network is to the USA what Pravda and Izvestia were to the former Soviet Union, what Xinhua News Agency is to China, and what the Reichspropagandaministerium was to the Nazis. IOW, it is the unofficial mouthpiece of the Party in power. When Clinton was in office, CNN served a similar function for the Dems.

As for Bill O'Reilly, he is an unmitigated buffoon who makes Homer Simpson look like a genius in comparison.

You guys bashing Fox News just can't handle the truth. The truth is that Fox News reflects "Mainstream America". The elite media reflects the liberal East, West Coasts and liberal North. Fox News presents points of view that most (US) Americans hold but which are considered out of vogue, or not PC (politically correct), by the elite media. If you really want to understand what most (US) Americans believe then watch Fox News. If you want what the elites in the US want to make (US) America into then watch the elite media and primetime TV (such as the West(Left)-Wing).

    how is that for truth?

    speaking of the simpsons.. i believe the mp3 below pretty much describes the republican party & the people who eat their shit and love it;

Did they still teach U.S. History and U.S. Government when you went to school? Or did you not pay attention? Bush got more electoral votes than Gore. It's the electoral college and not the popular vote that elects Presidents in the U.S. If you'd like, I'd be happy to send you my 6-grade history book. It's covered in there.

At almost every single newspaper or news agency I've worked for, we make fun of Fox "News".

It's a slanted channel, subjective stories, not worth watching.

CNN is international, and nothing is "foreign" to them. MSNBC is honestly one of the better news channels at the moment. That and you local station. ABC and NPR on the radio is some of the best.

All in all, tv is crap compared to newsprint (magazines excluded) and radio is next to newsprint. With tv, you get a few seconds of real meaty story, then hours and hours of nonsensical prattle from "consultants" and "experts" and "analysts".

Most financial analysts should be taken out around back and shot. I swear the market follows their baffoonery more than the real financial statistics. I hate the way they talk about how XXX Company had profit of "only" 8.4 billion instead of the "projected" 8.5 billion, as if it was a bad thing. Holy shit people! They still made money. Why on God's green earth would the stock go DOWN! I still can't figure it out.

Fox "News" is a minority of journalists that serve a niche market. Sure a big niche, but it's not some kind of overwhelming majority of the people. Most news aims to be objective (Op-Ed excluded), whether anybody out there wants to believe it or not. Fox "News" is the slanted channel for "yes-men" and other people that like to be assured that they are right, and God forbid they ever be wrong.

Two points: (1) The niche market they serve is a well educated and highly motivated group of people that VOTE and who are active in Society. (2) Fox News is not slanted or yes-man (women). They present the story in an intelligent way and allow the viewer to make up his or her own mind. You actually do hear both sides of a debate. For example, you'll hear both pro-choice and anti-abortion points-of-view.

Point (2) is why Fox News gets into trouble with the elite media. Fox News actually presents opposing view to poltically correct (PC) issues such as abortion, gun ownership, religion, etc.

  25. NONE of the news channels give a full 100% story, each make the story look better from their point of view. This isnt limited to foxnews, cnn, or msnbc, ALL of them do it.

  26. Okay pacmania, I know you're not a newbie, but please read the forum rules before posting, specifically those relating to the off-topic forum.

  27. No offence but if I was using Fox News as the singular source of my news the only countries that I would know that existed in the world is the US, Iraq and Afghanistan (because of the US presence in them currently).

  28. Well, Fox news is slanted to the right, but it is NOT an extremist point of view.

The thing is all other news stations in the US are slanted to the left. Thus, in comparision, thus if you use that as your zero point, even a completely neutral stance would be considered right wing. Agian, in comparision.

I can't remember where I heard this (but it was not from Fox news), but they are the ONLY major news outlet in the USA that gained viewership during last year, all others lost viewers. And CNN lost something like 11%!!!! Like it or not, more and more Americans are watching it every day because it gives you more than the "pre-packaged mainstream media" slant.

And pacmania, just today they were reporting about Vicente Fox in Mexico, and the gunman in Guatamala, and SARS in China. They are covering plenty other countries than Afganistan and Iraq. But a large part is Iraq because that is what is important to Americans right now.

  29. Maybe I should dig up my FOX News avatars again...

  30. Because some people are complaining about the political slant this topic has taken I think its time to shut this one down.
