I have seen many standalone DVD recorders and they are cheaper and cheaper, they can record DVD format, DD ... but i have't seen any recorder that suport direct TV divx record. I think this would be a good solution to record things like we do now with VHS.
anybody knows the reason?

You might take a look here: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=41 They seem to be developing a recorder.
