o.k please bare with me....I'm having a very frustrating problem
for the past 3 movie backups or so im noticing a recurring problem...
I rip the movie using DVD DECRYPTOR then i use DVD2AVI to get the sound file and the .d2v file. i load the .d2v file to TMPGENC and encode it with no problems...then i take the .m2v file load it to TMPGAUTHOR along with the .ac3 file that i got from DVD2AVI and i author the dvd and all...
so far this is text book right?...
NOW THIS IS THE PROBLEM IM HAVING: MY AUDIO AND VIDEO SYNC START WELL AND THEN ENDS UP OFF.
THIS IS REALLY FRUSTRATING SINCE I'VE BEEN BACKING UP MY MOVIES FOR A WHILE NOW WITH NO PROBLEMS...BUT NOW THE AUDIO AND THE VIDEO START WELL AND THEN THROUGHT THE MOVIE THEY GO MORE AND MORE OUT OF SYNC ...
does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix this...like i said...it never happened before...
Here are my impressions:
i dont think thats its a ripping problem because the ripped movie is played o.k using POWERDVD from my hard drive.
i dont think its the video encoding because when i encode from other sources (not dvd rips) everthing is still o.k
and so the only thing that im not sure of is the audio that is being extracted from DVD2AVI
i read some things on this forum questioning the DVD2AVI software realiabilty but i never payed much attention to the criticism since everything worked out fine for me.....
but now i'd like to know if there's a way to get the audio from the vobs without useing DVD2AVI so that i can see if that is really the problem OR do i need to tweek something in the DVD2AVI program
i should also mention that the .ac3 files that i get have 0 delay
and i should also mention that i tried to author with ifo edit and i got the same resault so there has to be something wierd happening with this audio thing....
any thoughts ideas suggestions?
thanks for baring with me...

I do not know why but I had that same problem. I no long use TMPG to encode movie's any more if you do then use www.DVD2DVD.org they now support TMPG to encode DVD for you one click program also you can use CCE to encode DVD's. I my self now use DVD2ONE any DVDshrink that's free. Great back up's. If you have not try www.dvdshrink.org give a try I think you will love it.

thanks for the suggestion...i tried DVDHSRINK and its too good to be true...the only problem that i had was that that i didn't have audio when i previewed with POWERDVD but all i had to do was to recreate the ifo files with ifo edit and IT WORKED....so sync problem and it only took about 30 minutes!!!! normally it took about 8-10 hours....so thanks again

Use the new est version of DVDShrink you wshould not have any problem version dvdshrink30beta5 and the stabel version 2.3. This is another free program to split DVD movie into two DVD-R https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=244#comments
http://www.mrbass.org/ has some add on's for DVDshrink -
Thanks spiderman2k1 ,
you know i actually was using the newest beta version of DVDSHRINK when i had that audio problem...what actually happened was that POWERDVD didn't even want to play the movie when i selected OPEN FILE FROM HARDDRIVE and then pointed to the ifo file. so instead i just clicked directly on the vob files and then POWERDVD played that file with no audio...the thing is DVDSHRINK only gives you one .ifo file and one .bup and i think that POWERDVD and my dvd player at home like to have the full set of 4 (2 ifo and 2 bup) so thats when IFOEDIT comes in handy cause it creates all 4 files for you in about 10 minutes. but yea....if DVDSHRINK would save me the hassle of having to create new ifoedit files then yea....that would be even better.... -
Read this https://www.videohelp.com/dvd
Audio:
48000 Hz
32 - 1536 kbit/sec
Up to 8 audio tracks containing DD (Dolby Digital/AC3), DTS, PCM(uncompressed audio), MPEG-1 Layer2. One audio track must have DD or PCM Audio. -
I had a similar problem long time ago converting dvd->divx. I can't remember the exact details but it might put you on the right track. It had something to do with deinterlacing or dropping duplicate frames in dvd's with source as Native NTSC, concert shows it think. Anyway as it went thru dropping the dupe frames, it caused the audio to get outta synch the longer it played. Any easy way for you to tell if something like this is happening: check the playtime on original video versus the recoded one. If recoded is shorter, thats your problem. Like I said, not an exact solution for you, but something to examine and possibly get you headed in right direction.
peace.
