  1. OK so the debate is how labeling DVDs can messup your player or how it makes the DVD skip and so on. Then there's the people that don't have any problems with their self-labeled DVDs....

My observation of Blockbuster DVDs are that many of them have Disc-shields applied to them. Aren't these just about the same as clear printable CD labels?

My point is, if blockbuster can apply these to millions of DVDs they can't be that bad.

Sorry, nursing a head cold. Are these disc shields thin plastic, or what? If they are, then they would not cause the same amount of wobble as a full paper label, I think.

  5. I have some discs labeled and some I printed directly using my Epson 900printer. All of them play without problems. I have never heard of a disc shield however it sounds like a good idea to protect rented media.

yeah they are plastic and actually thicker than some clear labels I've used. The also have to thin metal sequrity strips that run through them too.

  7. Mmm Looks like a good ides to protect inkjet printed disk...
Surely the side that needs most protection is the side the reading is done from not the side with the pretty picture on it (for want of a better discription).
Not seen these on Blockbuster disks in the UK.

The local rental store near me also uses these clear labels, they are for security reasons to stop people stealing them not for protection. I have started using clear labels on my back-ups now as well and I am not having the problems I had with the paper labels and they look pretty cool too. Fellowes makes nice clear labels, they are a little tricky going on but with a little patience they come out great with no air bubbles.

Well first off because they are a commercially pressed disc and therefore not as prone to skiping and freezeing.

Second off I have a friend who has had some minor issues with Blockbuster disc in the past, though I have no idea if thats the reason why or not.

Third its been my understanding that the clean plasic labels are somewhat better then the paper kind if you get the right kind.
