Is there no end to the frustrations this program is going to cause me???
Anyway, I have created a 16:9 PAL project and want my menus to be 16:9 too, and letterboxed on 4:3 sets.
I followed the instructions in the manual on how to create separate subpictures for Wide and LBX and assigned them as such using the W and L buttons for subpicture 1 & 2.
The menu looks fine as both Wide and LBX when played back using Scenarists simulation window, but when I play it back on my DVD player in LBX mode, the LBX subpicture(2) is ignored. Instead it uses the 16:9 subpicture(1), which obviously doesn't fit the letterboxed menu.
I looked at some commercial DVDs that use 16:9 menus, and instead of letterboxing the menus, they somehow cut off the sides for 4:3. Now that's cool! How do they do that? Do they have 2 different menus, and if so, how do you tell the player which one to use?
I would still prefer to have my menu auto-letterbox, so if anybody has any idea why my second subpicture isn't used as it's supposed to, I would be extremely grateful.

You can use that link to find a local reseller. -
The menu should appear like a track with two subpicture streams below. One subpicture is for 16:9 and the second for 4:3.
Each subpicture has option boxes for wide and normal aspects. You need to check the appropriate ones for each subpicture stream.
Additionally, you must also select a subpicture language for each subpicture. And they must match.
It's funny that the simulation window plays that back while the DVD player doesn't. Have you tried PowerDVD or another PC/SW player to check results? The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
Yes, I did all this, and as it turned out, the solution was one that has worked in the past. Reboot, open the project again, and export. Hey presto, suddenly it worked. You would have thought that by version 3.7 they would have at least ironed SOME of the bugs out.Originally Posted by SaSi
