If the source DVD is an original, encrypted disc, you cannot do an on-the-fly backup of it. You have to rip it, compress if necessary, then burn, in different steps.
However, if the DVD u wish to copy is a backup, it's already been decrypted, so you can make an on-the-fly copy of it. Nero, RecordNow, EZ CD Creator.......just about every one of them I've seen has that option. One of the record options will be *copy disc*, and you'll have the choice of using either the one drive (ISO image) technique, or copy on the fly for those with 2 drives.
Whatever you do, don't go buy DVD x copy. There are oodles of reasons why it is a bad choice for backing up DVD's. Some are...you have to BUY it.... there are many titles it won't rip....it puts warning labels throughout the backup......it protects the copies so they can't be copied.....and it goes on and on. Just do a search for dvd x copy and you'll see what I'm talking about. -
ive found the best method to use is a program called dvd x copy express. all you do is put a dvd into your dvd drive and a blank dvd into your burner , press one button and hey presto you have a back up copy. now this program costs money to purchase but its well worth it.
