    I have digital cable tv, and use a cable box. Does the LVW-5001 come with a "cable eye" to control a cable box, or can it decode a digital cable signal directly w/o using a box at all? So, can I use it to record digital tv (not hdtv)?

    No, the LVW-5001 doesn't have an IR blaster/cable mouse (what you refer to as "cable eye").
