  1. **if this is in the wrong forum, i apologize**

okay, i'm trying to write a ripped dvd movie with pinnacle instantcopy. thing is, when it gets to 100% and it's writing the leadout track (i assume) i get an error message.

it says "hardware error: write 32765 bytes at postion 2295104

error info: the disc application layer has issued that the drive does not support." then it tells me that if there's still a problem to write in TAO, DAO, or RAW writing. then it says

    sense info: 70 00 05 00.....

    command: 7a 00 00 23......

i have a sony dru510a and it's fairly new. this is the first error i got. i tried it twice, and i still got the same error, so it's not a one-time thing. i also burned a couple other movies in between those 2 so i know there's not a problem with the burner. i used khypermedia+r's. i've used them before, and as i said before, i had no errors. so do i need to change the media (i also got tdk-r's), should i maybe reduce the quality a littlebit so that it's under 4.31, or should i maybe update the firmware (i didn't do it since it's been working fine. thanks in advance for any help

The media and/or the firmware are most likely to be the cause. The size should be OK - I have only heard of this working with some cheap media where the outer 5% of the discs are dodgy, but essentially it is because the media is crap to start with.

Try some different media and also look for firmware updates. Look for updates with your software and/or try other burning software. It might just be a matter of two things not liking each other with your current config.
    If in doubt, Google it.

if anything, i think it's more like the media. i don't think it's so much as the firmware/software cuz i've burned about 10 movies, all different sizes and didn't have any problem

Could be right. Some media often have a sprinkling of bad discs throughout.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. well, i retried. this time i did a firmware update and used a tdk-r. still same error at the same time with the same info except this time it said that the compilation size exceeded the disc size. that's weird now cuz instant copy always automatically shrinks it. i never had a problem, only with this particular movie. do i maybe need to shrink it down some more? in that case, how do i do it with instantcopy cuz even when i lower the quality, it always goes to 4.31G no matter what

You need to try differant software. Maybe dvd2one or dvd shrink. Then use anything but nero to burn the disk.
