I assume this is forum for this question:
I have a hard drive that is in some serious need of defragmentation. I am still using Win98SE(yes....still).
and the MS defragger is glacially slow when it comes to defragging....especially a 120GB WD HD.
Anybody know of some faster, effective defrag apps that don't hog memory and/or work in the background?.....ones without registry issues

Regardless it sounds like you're in for a long defrag time no matter what program you use for it. Windows defrag is pretty quick because it doesn't allow you any options. I use Norton's Speed Disk which you can set to have certain files put in certain locations or not touched at all. I have Norton set to defrag a drive every morning at 3am so that all my drives are defragged once a week. If you leave your computer on all night this is the best idea so it doesn't interrupt your work during the day. I'm pretty sure Speed Disk works with Win98, but I think you're in for quite a wait. Last time I manually defragged my 120GB boot drive (70% full, 30% fragmentation) it took 4 hours.
