  1. I see people using term Time Slip to describe ability to play/pause/and so... of curently recorded program while it is recording. I don't believe that it is correct. I think that correct term for that is Time Shift. Based on Panasonics definition here are 3 different functions that can be called part of Time Shift.

Chasing play - Playing from the beginning of the program you are recording

Simultaneous rec and play - You can start play a different program previously recorded during recording.

Time Slip - You can play the program being recorded to check that it is being recorded correctly. You can also check parts that were recorded previously. You can see both parts in kind of Picture in Picture format.

  3. Again... all 3 terms came from Panasonics documentation from chapter called

    Playing while you are recording
    Chasing play
    Simultaneous rec and play
    Time Slip

Each means different thing. Try... Panasonic DMR-E80H page 17.

    Pioneer is using terms

    Simultaneous recording and playback
and it includes CP and SRAP (Panasonic terms)

They don't have Time Slip which in my mind from now on means to see in PIP recording and playing already recorded part at the same time.

BTW: I hate when manufacturers call same thing with different, sometimes confusing names.

You see... this is what I am talking about. I saw somebody complaining becouse he culd not activate Panasonics "Time Slip" by simply pressing "pause" button on remote.

  5. One more definition... this time from Panasonic DMR-HS2
Watch a program while you are recording it (->page 21) [HDD] [RAM]
    Chasing play
You can watch a program from the start while you are still recording it.
    Simultaneous rec and play
You can record a program while watching one you recorded previously.
    Time Slip
-You can jump back to review a piece of action you missed while
recording by pressing the time slip button (can be set between 1
minute and 999 minutes with HDD, 1 minute and 360 minutes with
DVD-RAM in units of one minute.)
-During playback, it is possible to jump an amount of time (specified
by you) to the scene you wish to view.

  6. Just to add, TiVo calls it a "trick play" I believe.

Since "Time Shift" is describing somethin else, only correct term is "Playing while recording".... ??? PWR ??? Do you like it ? Or does anybody have better sugestion ?

Let's just call it "TIME SLIP" Like the ads and commericals do, and have a nice day.

Too much confusion and unecessary ( who cares?). I prefer a simple world. 8)
