  1. I've been watching some Star Trek TV Series VCD's I burned & I'm seeing alot of pixels on the screen. I'm playing them on a Pioneer 525 if that helps. Is there anything I can do before the burning process to reduce the amount of pixels I'm seeing? Its not (to quote James Brown) "Superbad" but at times abi distracting.

  2. what are you useing to encode the files? try raising the bitrate and use noise filters.

  3. Well we need more info. What's the source (VHS capture, DVD rip, etc). What program and settings are you using to encode now?

Assuming VHS capture, encoded w/ TMPGenc. Capture in the highest resolution you can (720x480 if possible, YUV 4:2:2 RGB doesn't help for most chipsets).

Encoding w/ TMPGenc. Either use your DVD players max bitrate w/ motion search set to high (highest is over kill). OR use 2pass VBR, with motion search set to high.

If at all possible try to get a DVD source

  4. deal with it, you're viewing a vcd. there will always be pixels. there is no "holy grail" of vcd creation where it is as good as dvd.

  5. Try capturing smowhere between 2200 and 2520 bitrate, I use 2520 bitrate all the time on my VCD's and I get NO pixels when I capture from DVD, Laser disc or Hi8mm and the motion setting at the highest, I do see a difference for normal, high and highest. Try viewing it back on a 36 or 52 inch tv and you sure will.
