LG4040B - want to burn DVD-R at 1x

My LG4040B will not allow me to select 1x burn speeds on certain media. On TDK rated at 2x I can select the 1x burn speed BUT on media rated 4x, the slowest speed I can select is 2x....

I always burn my video dvd-rs at 1x as 2x or faster causes the movie to freeze and skip in my Pioneer DV333 player.... My two Norcent DP300 players are not as fussy... I always burn data at 4x...just not video...

My other computer has a Pioneer A05 burner and I also must burn all movies at 1x with it as well...

Nero driveinfo reports my firmware for the LG4040B is A300.... Any suggestions on how I can lower my burning speed on my LG ?

Some media can't be burnt at 1x. DVD media is a little different from CD media, and the laser would wreck the burnable layer of the disc if it was left on there too long (i.e. at 1x) so those media are determined by your burner to be "not burnable at 1x".

You can actually get a WORSE burn. Yes, the specifications say that 4x media should burn at 1x, but I can guarantee you that a lot of 4x media out there WON'T burn at 1x.

The problem is, I have some Pine 4x DVD-R media that burns fine on my Pioneer A05 at 1x. But on my LG4040B, it will not burn at 1x. 2x is the slowest speed...

I've had problems with some 4x media not playing properly in my Pioneer DV333 player when burnt at 4x or even 2x. Play fine if burnt at 1x though.....

Then it must not be the media.

Have you tried upgrading the firmware. See here...
