LiteOn 401S & Ridata Media DVD-R (purple) Will not

I recently got a LiteON 401S DVDRW ( http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/DVDRW_401S.htm )

I bought Ridata Media DVD-R (purple back) ( http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?DEPA=1&sumit=Go&description=N82E16817132...5&searchdepa=1 and http://198.66.210.169/dvdr.html )

I'm using Nero Ultra 6.

For some reason when I have a blank DVD in the drive it doesnt detect it. When I go to burn, it tells me to insert a blank DVD. After I do that, I close the tray and it looks like its attempting to read it, but never does. The light on the front of the drive blinks for a while, then stops, then blinks some more. All the while Nero just keeps telling me to insert blank media into the drive.

The DVD drive plays dvds with no problems.

Has anybody had this issue and can offer some help? Thanks

The 401s is DVD+R burner if bought DVD-R you cannot use it.
You must buy DVD+R media or convert your drive to 411s which is a +/- burner.

Awesome. I knew somebody would have the answer.

Does anybody have a reputable link on how to flash from 401S to 411S?

or am I better just buying new media instead

I think you can find it very easy on the internet. It is safe to make it a 411s, but I think it is not legal.

Also if you f'up your burner, not covered by warranty, unless you're a shady <insert expletive>, not saying that you are though.
