I have searched the forums, and haven't come up with an answer, so if anyone can direct me, I would appreciate it. I have never felt the need to get a all region player, but my friend just brought me a Region 3 disc from Hong Kong. I can play it in Power DVD, since you have 4 chances to set the region coding before it becomes permanent and I know you can hack it, but I don't really care to, unless it is a simple process, and something that isn't problematic, which I doubt.

I was just thinking of ripping the disc and putting it on a DVD-R. I ripped it to the hard drive, and it plays just fine in media player, but without subtitles, because it won't play the menu off the hard drive. What would I have to do to the .VOBs to make them play Region 1, before I burn it to a blank? Or do I just burn it? I didn't think it would be that easy.

I am using DVDDecryptor to rip, and I usually use DVD2One to process if I need to, though with this disc, I wouldn't need to compress it.

  2. I ripped Dark Water Region 3 DVD with DVD Decryptor and shrunk with DVD Shrink and burned the result with Nero to a DVD+RW and it works perfectly on my Panasonic RP82.

Do I have to run it through shrink? It is only a single sided, single layered disc, so the size is no problem, but do I need to run it through shrink to get rid of the region coding?

  4. DVD Decryptor makes it region free ... I only used DVD Shrink to make the DVD9 Dual Layer DVD fit a DVD5. If you rip fits a DVD5 then dont bother with DVD Shrink. Advice though, burn it to a DVD+/-RW and not +/-R and wasting a disc in case of any mistakes.

    Take care!

Thanks, Urbanlegend. I was thinking that myself. I will try tonight. I guess if DVDDecryptor removes the region coding, I can just do an ISO image and burn to DVD-RW. I'll give it a try.

  6. A question for you now, why do people make ISO images and then burn to DVD? If I did a rip with DVD Decryp and shrink is not needed I burn direct to DVD. Same if I shrink...

It's probably the same, one way or the other. When you do an ISO image, you can just use DeCryptor. You make the ISO on your hard drive, and then DeCryptor writes it to the DVD for you. Simple, no other program to launch, and it's an exact copy of the original.
