could someone please settle this arguement i have been having with an assistant in pc world. i commented that i was having problems burning dvds , they played back ok until the end were they begin to freeze up. now i put this down to bad media but pc world says it is because my operating system is 98, which has problems with files over 4GB , they tried to convince me that if i upgrade to windows 2000 this will solve my problems. now is this true or just a load of b******t in an attempt to get me to spend some cash.

It is a load of Bull.
Win98 has a 4Gb file size limit.
DVD-video has a 1Gb file size limit.
How would upgrading to win2k help fix this!

many thanks bugster, i suspected as much . as you say when i rip a dvd the file consists of smaller files all less than 1GB, so its not as if windows is burning 1 file over 4GB.

Total BS. DVD's have 1 GB VOB's to prevent you from copying them to CDR (kinda like not being able to make a boot floppy with NTFS because the minimum FAT table is over 2 MB, but I digress).
DVD's aren't formatted in FAT or NTFS, so it's a moot point. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
I agree but the grass is lot greener on the other size of the fence when you start using NTFS.
That 4GB file size limit sucks!

Thats such bullshit!!!
It 's soooo painfully frustratingto see that PC World still carefully select and educate their sales staff!!
Waz exactly the same ten yrs ago when i waz working over there!!
Mate plz disregard EVERYTHING that a pc world 'assistant' has ever advised ya with, relating to computers. I wouldnt dare trust them to pop a beer can for me without causing grave personal injury to themselves and others!!!
On the serious side yr prob seems to be media related. Use different media and see how it goes.
Good Luck
