Visted the Officemax website and found that they have $10 instant rebates on Memorex five-pack 4x DVD both +R & -R media (so $9.99 each; good for trials w/ my 510A). And they also had a $9.99 instant rebate + $10 mail-in rebate on a Belken 100-pack of slim jewel cases. Just came back w/ one of each.

Well, I'll take a chance on the cases. After all, it's just a bit of writing and 37¢ postage. I got the instant ½ either way.

to quote forest gump......"rebates are like a box of chocolates, you never know if youre gonna get it back." -
Thanx for your 2¢! I'll drop it in the mail tomorrow and I guess I'll find out in about 6-8 weeks!

I've seen others post about not gettin OM rebates, but the one time I tried, they ...eventually all came through. Not the 6-8 weeks, more like 12-18 weeks. So keep records... I just never bought from them again after all I heard and the time.
be careful. -

"Here are some rebate resources to help you locate and check rebate status.
Fill out rebate forms completely and include all specified UPCs and receipts. Make copies of ALL rebate documentation before mailing, to enable rebate tracking. We suggest you fill out and mail rebate as quickly as possible to ensure you do not procrastinate. After a couple weeks, call and check to make sure they received your rebate and that your address was entered in correctly.
1) Buy with a 0% APR Credit card.
2) Print out and read rebate form carefully before purchasing. Verify the merchant qualifies.
3) Make sure the product WORKS before sending out the rebate. Returns without UPC are harder.
4) Tape UPC code to rebate form. Fill out rebate form COMPLETELY. Print rebate# on envelope. Staple everything together. Highlight the purchase date and item on the receipt. Highlight important terms like 'Copy of UPC ok' on the rebate form.
5) Make copies of everything, note the date sent, and send the rebate out certified mail.
6) Check their site to verify they have 'Received' the rebate after a couple weeks. Call them if they have not.
7) If a check does not arrive when it is supposed to, email or call the rebate house to ask them to verify the rebate. Ask about resubmission. If you do not get a good answer, call back and try a different representative. Some can grant 'one-time' validation as a courtesy.
8) If you still cannot get the rebate, try contacting the store you bought it from or calling the President of that store chain.
9) File a complaint with the FTC
10) File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau
Rebates are used to increase sales. They are usually found on products nearing the later part of their lifecycle or on products that would normally not sell with heavy promotion.
Rebates are used to lower the price of a product without changing its actual price. Usually the price of the product will be lowered when the rebate expires. Changing the price would result in price protection having to be paid by the manufacturer to the retailer or distributor.
Rebates help limit the quantity of promotional items. Nearly all rebates have a single unit limit.
Rebates attract people buying for businesses, who get reimbursed by the company. They get reimbursed for the purchase price and pocket the rebate themselves.
Because fewer than 100% of eligible rebate requests are filed, the manufacturer makes out better than simply reducing the price. It is estimated that rebate redemption rates hover in the 10 to 30% range on $10 to $30 off $100 product rebates, and far below that for small rebates. Rebates on free after rebate products are higher than average. and may be used as lost leaders to drive traffic into a store. The more qualifications a rebate has, the lower its redemption rate. Do not become part of the statistics, follow our tips to ensure you get back what you are promised."
i know a few people who bought stuff from officemax, they all received their rebates during the 6-8week periods. Note, most places have numbers you can call if your rebate doesn't show up.
