    Hi legendgez,

Mats is right - there's loads of info on this site on AVI -> DVD (all the steps and tools), just takes a while to locate exactly what you need and to learn about it.

In answer to your other questions:

also is there a good free downloadable programme that i can use to split avi or mpg movies in half?
    Split AVI = VirtualDub

Split MPG - There are tools, but I don't recall their name(s). What I have heard is that it's harder working with MPG and can often lead to audio out of synch problems. Search the forum for more info.

one final thing is there a programme that turns avi into mpg, or a programme with ability to lower quality of picture on avi movies in order to fit on dvd
Yes, TMPGEnc is considered one of the best for encoding to MPG1 and MPG2. It's 30 day trialware. Read the info in the Tools section for what the trial covers (I think there's restrictions on encoding to MPG2 which is DVD compliant).

You won't need to "bribe" people here - You'll find that if you show you've put in the leg work (i.e. read guides, tried it out and got stuck) then people will help. And there's loads of people that know loads of stuff - that's why it's such a good site.

    Good luck.

    Gee, where to start?

    RTFG!

Having said that, I'd give you a 1/3 chance of succeeding. If you can't take the effort to read the guides, I doubt you have the patience to deal with a downloaded AVI of dubious origin (Yes I'm calling you the P word).

My only advice is don't ignore the VBR error message........

  8. You need to extract the audio from the original AVI file, then you need to re-encode the avi video with the wav audio into mpeg video and mpeg-2 audio with certain specifications defined in the tmpgenc templates.

    Simple, huh?
