I'm about to quit totally. This is truly the hardest thing I've ever tried to learn in my life. Quick recap, I'm trying to get 102 tv shows onto as few blank DVD's as possible. After many, many tries of changing settings on TMPEG Plus 2.5, deleting and re-recording 7 shows, removing commercials, trying my best to get about 7 shows or so on a single disc, not having any luck by the way. I decided to just give in and put 5 shows on disc, I figure it's better then 2 which is what I was getting before I found this site.
Anyway, I have 2 burning programs on my computer, I bought the Ulead Movie Factory 2, and I dl'ed the trial of the TMPEG DVD Author 1.5. I can get 5 shows on the Movie Factory 2, but I can only get 4 on the TMPEG DVD Author, I miss being able to get 5 on it by about 200 mbs. So I try to burn my first disc of 5 shows on the MF2, and I put the disc in (DVD-R) and it says the disc is not blank, or there is no media found in the drive, it did this with 3 brand new discs right out of the package. So I try with DVD+R and it says there is not enough time on the disc, but the disc is for 2 hrs and all 5 shows equal 1 hr 57 min in length. Anyone know why this is doing this and how I'd try to fix it?
The first time I encoded with diff setttings it took bout 30 min or so to do, then I changed some settings around with lordsmurfs guide and i tried to encode the first show and it said it'd take around 2 hrs to do, whis encoding time seems like the right one?
Does anyone have any msger service they can talk to me on and walk me thru changing settings step by step maybe? If so, pm me please..
If anyone has put 30 min (24 min without commercials) who have put them on dvd please tell me what settings to use,. i'm totally stressed out over this becasue i cant figure this out at all lol, thanks alot

I routinely put 7 or 8 hours TV on DVD's. I capture with ATI Multimedia Center which came with my ATI AIW 7500 card. I capture at vcd settings and then author with Tmpgenc DVD Author. Results are outstanding.
What program are you using to capture? If you are interested I will give you my specific settings. The details make all the difference.
I simply capture and then author. It is absolutely nuts to capture avi and then convert to mpg in this case. -
well good im glad u know something about dvd author because i know nothing about it..i can only get 4 shows on that, but i can get 5 on the mf2..
im capturing with showbiz 2 software it was installed on my media center m370n i have, hp told me i have a card already built into it..
yes any help u can give me is so appreicated because ive admiiited defeat on this i stay up til 7 every morning working on this and i cant figure it out...then i take it to tmpg plus 2.5 after i capture it on showbiz 2 and its downhill from there -
You can put as many shows as you want using TMPGEnc DVD Author. Just add whatever you want and create the DVD files- it'll tell you that the DVD is too big to fit on a disk- just have it ignore that.
Once the DVD files are created, open them with DVDShrink and compress them to fit on one disk.
You'll probably have to use DVDShrink 2.3 to open the files created by DVD Author. But if you create a backup with 2.3 (with no compression) then you can open the backup with version 3.0beta. -
presto - I have the the ati7500 aiw and would like to do exactly what you described. Could you please post your specific settings, it would be a big help for me. Thanks.
Also, is there a way to edit out the commercials? -
mmm just a thought, but have you tried using the birate Calculator from this site ( checkout the tools section on the left).
You say your 5 shows together add up to 1 hour 57mins, now all you have to do is add this info into the calulator, it will give you your avg, and maximum birate.
Example:
Avg Birate: 4820
Maximum Birate: 9406
AudioBirate: 384kbps 48khz
"The above example is what you get when you enter the 1 hour 57 into the calculator."
Then enter these values into TMPGEnc, select the correct DVD template and encode.
When it's done you should now have a either 5 seperate shows or 1 large Mpeg file.
If you encode your shows 1 at a time remember to encode each show with the same settings.
Or join all together and encode as 1 .
You can now author these to DVD.
I find this calulator to be precise when it comes to DVD's.I Have Always Been Here

Also, is there a way to edit out the commercials?
1.13 Mbits/sec
audio= 48000khz 16 bit stereo
This is just the vcd setting with the audio changed to 48000 for DVD compliancy.
Here is the important thing:
Filters:
Comb1=60%
Sharp=15%
I then use one program to cut commercials, adjust endpoints, add chapters and menus, author, and burn. The program is TmpgencDVD Author. (Actually I usually do the final burn with Nero but TmpgencDVD is capable of doing it)
These settings give me great results. Please try it before commenting (every one). Don't judge the results by what you see on your computer screen either. You need to actually make a DVD and put it in your set top player. Playing from the computer to a monitor or TV is not the same.
