  1. I'm contemplating purchasing a Toshiba SD-3950 DVD player, as an upgrade of my first-gen Panasonic player. In particular, I'm looking for a unit that will play DVD+R and DVD+RW content created on my PC.

From what I can determine, it seems like playing DVD+R/+RW is a hit or miss affair for just about every manufacturer and model; is that true? It seems like users with the no-name brands (Apex, CyberLink, etc.) have had the best success rate; is that truly the case?

According to the User Comment page on this site, the SD-3950 is not DVD+RW compatible; yet a search of the forum indicates that some have been able to play DVD+RWs on this model.

Appreciate any guidance or first-hand experience. Thanks.

  2. It's hit or miss depending mostly on the media you are burning on. Seems most players don't like cheap media, so get quality stuff.

Then, sometimes the players are finicky as hell too. So it's a tough choice. Just read and inform yourself before purchasing.

My TOSHIBA 2800 acts better with DVD+RW and DVD+R media than my Cyberhome 300 and Apex 1100W. I use it exclusively for viewing my APEX DRX-9000-made DVD+RW discs.
