I'm about to purchase a Datavideo DAC-100 bi-directional DV/analog converter, primarily for conversion of VHS home movies to DVD.
I plan to edit in Final Cut Express, author in LaCie's captyDVD and burn in Toast 6.0.3.
Anybody have any experience with this arrangement for the conversion? Any recommendations or suggestions?
I'm a novice in video work and I'm anticipating very basic output. Basically my goal is to edit/condense and preserve.
Thanks in advance, ....... old-man

Search this forum for my previous posts on " Canopus vs. Data Video".
The responses I got convinced me to buy the Canopus ADVC-100
instead, and I've been REALLY happy with it.
Currently, working on Birds of Prey from VHS to make my own multi
disc season box set. Not a dropped frame, Audio is clean.

I borought a miglia from a friend, i couldn't get the audio sync, with btv and imovie 3 crashed al the time...by useing pacefist i was able to install imovie 2, now it works great. What i'm trying to say is: it not only depends on the hardware but on the software too..

I love my DAC-100. I only wish I had a better VCR, I really have trouble converting older tapes which has problems with tracking. I would look into a JVC SVHS with a Time Based Corrector.
