So far from what I seen I like the movie. Some thing have changed. Big space suit's seem little funny. The Blond girl is very hot looking for a Robot. The actor are not bad. I would say this might be one of SCIFI best made movie's. The only reason I say this I have not seen DUNE scifi movie's yet. If I had to pay seven buck to see part one and pay again to see part two for another seven buck's I would. It's just show you how good writting can make a good movie. And all the money in the world can not save the next Star Wars movie is still going to suck ball's.

"flaystus" they will replay it all this week and show it agian on sunday.
"g_shocker182" why do you think this show is nerdy? Any one will tell you Battlestar Galactica is alot of fun to watch. -
well i liked it overall except for one thing. i dont know who has seen the original, but star buck was a guy. now i dont know why they chose to do soemthing drastic and change the character, which i think sucks. maybe they wanted some kind of love thing between star buck and apollo -_-. whatever it was, i dont think it was a great idea. the only other thing i miss from the original is if they ocudl have included somehting like the origianl theme music. other then those two things, it was a good show, i plan on watching agian tonight. Oh and they may show it like 6 times like they did this one last night lol

well i knew they are only used as call signs for pilots. i do realize now aobut ti being in the future. but i am a bit confused as why there is no mention of the old 'starbuck' or apollo, unless that is lees older brother, but that didnt seem right. plus adama is awfully young looking for someone 40 years older then he was in the original lol. it seems more like this mini series is mor elike a parralell story then a direct continuation, but maybe all these things will be hashed out later. but to me this just seems liek they are trying to remake the series instead of continue it. and as far as it not being a great series, well in 69 ppl hated star trek, and it had just as many cheesy plot lines as battlestar glacatica ever had. i think for its time, it was great series, it just didnt gain the fan fair star trek or star wars did.

The Commander from the old TV show son was apollo and apollo has a ten years old boy. The little kid with the Robot dog from the old show. I think the little kid is the new Commander of Battlestar Galactica witch is now Edward james Olmos.
-
Uhm... I followed this a little bit when ti was being made.. these should not be the sons and daughters of the original characters, its a complete remake unless they changed something at the last min.
I saw about 15 min of part 2 and it looked good, but I was lost. I don't have a working VCR and since I missed part one I couldn't bring myself to watch all of part 2. Oh well I'll get it when the DVD comes out like I did both Dunes. -
"flaystus" I do not think this is a remake. There is one clue the DR. say's the last time some one saw a Cylon they looked like walking toaster's and that was 40 years ago. There is some part of the store there not telling ithe old show they went to earth. What I think happen they found there own planet little later after find earth and decide to go there and have there own planet. The back store should have been little tight to fill in some hole's.

You guy's are right this is a remake well they call it reimagining. they change Star Buck to a women what a t stupit thing to do. Just make a new character and it would have been oh ok

Why is this called a "reimagining" instead of a "remake"?
I think SCI FI wanted to send a clear message that the intent of this project was to retain the thematic and mythological underpinnings of the original while being free to expand and reinterpret the world — and this subgenre we call "space opera" — from a visual and tonal standpoint.
We are trying to take a more natural, realistic approach to this story and to the form in general. And while "remake" may have very well covered such an endeavor, I agree that the term "reimagining" — while recognizing the term incurs a controversial reaction from some of the original show's fan base — is a fairer and more accurate description of what is afoot here.
David Eick, the executive producer of SCI FI's upcoming miniseries event Battlestar Galactica, is here to answer your questions about this modern reimagining of the classic series.

Why did you decide to "reimagine" Battlestar Galactica rather than continue where the original series left off?
When I originally approached Ron Moore with the opportunity the studio presented to me, his initial impulse seemed uniquely appropriate, and Breck Eisner, who was attached to direct until prior commitments pulled him away, agreed. There are countless examples of remakes of classic stories of every ilk and tone that have seemed to work, because new life was breathed into an iron-clad franchise — everything from Mission: Impossible to The Brady Bunch to the James Bond films. Yet there seemed to be precious few examples of "continuations" that worked — and several that failed.
Moreover, Ron seemed compelled by the themes and the sprit of the original Battlestar Galactica — the family relationships, humanity pulling together to survive, etc. — and to that end, he felt better-equipped to more purely explore those themes without the baggage of a continuation. We readily agreed, and the studio — and eventually the network — seemed thrilled with that take.
Was there anything in particular you felt was a problem with the old show that you specifically wanted to change with this new version?
Not at all. However, the old show was of its time — much has taken place in our world between 1978 and 2003, and to the extent we want our contemporary reality to be represented in this new take, it has evolved accordingly.
Why did you choose to make Starbuck a woman, rather than just adding new female characters?
In truth, there was less agonizing over this decision than you might imagine. We wanted to demonstrate how men and women fight alongside each other in this world (which, to further my "contemporary reality" reference above, reflects a modern truth that's different than it was in 1978), and how their loyalty to each other as soldiers and warriors supersedes stereotypical relationship dynamics (sexual tension, etc.).
In the original Battlestar Galactica, Starbuck and Apollo are the quintessential "brothers in arms" — a nod to the great male/male relationship descendants of William Goldman's Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. So changing Starbuck to a woman — while maintaining the nature and energy of the Starbuck-Apollo relationship — seemed an appropriate way to make our point about warrior loyalty in a new way. -
You guys might be missing parts of the story, 'cause the show was picked back up for a short while in 1980 and ran in syndication under the title, Galactica 1980
These episodes aren't included in the 6 disc DVD set.
I remember this second series, 'cause one it's stars, Robyn Douglass was getting a lot of exposure at the time when Playboy, Penthouse and Hustler were all running photos she posed earlier on for each...she caused a big stink over some X-rated ones Huster published, suing them and getting a lot of money in the end.
Anyway, I don't think she was in the cast for the original 1978 series.
I also recall a movie version that HBO aired a number of times in the early '80s. -
It was okay, but pretty low-budge.
Why are the Cylon ships so different yet the Vipers are virtually the same as the original series? And whats up with cyborg cylons???"Terminated!" :firing: -

Yes now I think of it there was a second season. There one episode where Star Buck crash land's on planet and and repair's a Cylon to have a friend. And the Cylon get's him a woman. And she pregnant and she has the baby Star Buck make's another Star ship from his broken ship and the cylon broke ship. The little baby grow up and is little kid who really smart. Then they get to earth and the have the flying motorcycle.

It's a "remake" of sorts, but the writer only wanted to retain the original theme of the series. He wanted to bring the story up to date. One way was to have stronger women charactors, since these days women play a slightly different role in society than they did 20 something years ago.
The older "cyborg" Cylons are explained as being the original cylons. there was a great war between then and the humans. the Cylons retreated and were not heard from for 50 years. They improved their technology and patterned themselves after the humans who created them.
They discarded the cheesy robotic cylons and filmed the battle scenes in a kind of documentary like "cinema verte" style, which I felt worked really well.
BTW, Edward james Olmos is around 56. In 1978 he would have been about 31, kind of old to play someone's kid. He was in Blade Runner though.I don't have a bad attitude...
