Hey all,
One of the main resaons I bought the Panasonic E-50 was that it had circuitry that would supposedly help to minorly clean up/enhance old or worn VHS video fed into it for archiving.

I wasn't expecting miracles, but I was looking forward to doing some A/B'ing.

My question is this: the only mention I can find of this processing in the owner's manual refers to three different elements of noise reduction/enhancement collectively known as MPEG DNR.

However, unless I misunderstand the manual and the relevant on-screen display, this only affects playback, not incoming signals. Is that correct, or does it mean that this processing is actually affecting the incoming signal and that the finished discs I make will reap the benefits of this DNR?

I was hoping to be able to control each of the three aspects individually, either as an on/off thing, or in incremental levels, but it seems like it's an all or nothing situation.

Also, ther seems to be no easy way to switch it back and forth on the fly. What do you folks do to A/B stuff, just run a test segment and hit stop every so often as you flash back to the source tape that continues to run?

Sorry if the answer to this is obvious, but I'm legitimately befuddled due to their terminology...

Thanks in advance -

- Jim
