  2. i wonder if this is going to use the new chip made by philips for dual recording???

  3. Based on what they used in 5001, I assume they will use LSI chip. From the beggining chip was supporting +/-.

  4. Surely this is a typo, right?

You still hate DVD+R/RW format. Too bad for you.

Can you take your recorded DVD-RW disk in DVD-VR format out of your DVD-RW set-top recorder and play it right away on any other stand alone DVD player.?

    NO, YOU CAN'T.

I can take recorded DVD+RW disk in DVD+VR format out of my LiteOn recorder and play it right away on any other stand alone DVD plyaer.

    YES, I CAN.

  9. I took a quick look at the user manual and the recorder doesn't appear to use DVD+VR nor DVD-VR for DVD-RW discs (at least I didn't see it mentioned), only DVD-Video mode.

  10. Well 5005 is not in US yet (at least I am not aware of that), but I can try to ask arround. How does one confirm what type is used ? How can I indicate if it is DVD-Video, DVD-VR or DVD+VR mode ?
    Quote Quote
  11. Here are reasons why I think the DVD-Video mode:

    (1) You cannot add new recording to DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+R discs after the disc is finalized. (see page 13)

    (2) For DVD-RW / DVD-R / DVD+R disc recording each new recording is always placed right after previous recording, since the original recordings cannot be overwrited. (see page 23)

    (3) After erasing the titles on the DVD+R & DVD-R/RW discs, the erased space could not be utilized. (see page 23)

All of the above limitations do not apply to VR mode.

  12. So there is no "tool" or somethink that can be used to confirm what format it is ?

  13. A disc recorded in DVD-VR mode will contain .VRO file; a disc recorded in DVD+VR mode will contain VIDEO_RM folder. Unfortunately, the LVW-5005 is not yet available for us to check the contents of the disc it recorded at this time.

Isn't the .VRO file only for DVD-RAM ?

  15. Not sure about 5005, but I see in some posts that 5001 has VIDEO_RM folder. We will have to wait for 5005

  17. Beat ya by a few days, see my post here ... https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=210972

It appears they're in stock elsewhere, since Monday... so they're probably generally available now.... I went with the free shipping from Computers4Sure Monday, and won't have my unit until next Thursday They're shipping from CA.

I really hope it's well built... I'm very nervous... though it's hard to resist .. it seems to do quite a bit.

Are you saying the firmware which ships with the 5005 is obsolete already?
