i have been trying tio backup my dvds but am having problems getting them to work on my dvd player.
i am using dvd shrink for the process and bulkpaq generation 4 dvd-r.
the problem is not due to the media, i backed up an already backed up dvd and it played fine in the dvd player.
i am using recordnow dx program for burning the files and am using a liteon 411s burner.
the backups play fine on pcs but am getting a message "disc error" on the dvd player. i have tried to play them in other dvd players and am getting the same problem.
maybe i need to decrypt the movies using a seperate program or something, pleese could someone help???????

DVDShrink should do the job no problems.
I have never used the burning software that you are using.
I use Nero 6, using the DVD UDF/ISO template as opposed to the DVD-Video template.
I can't think of any reason why you could fail in DVDShrink as it is very straight forward and useable from default.
When you go to the final part of DVDShrink (choosing the location for your rip) Untick the region free box and place a tick in the region for your area and untick all of the other regions. This has helped me out with some compatability issues. It is not 100% more 70%, in my case anyway.
I have 2 set-top players. One is what they call 'Multiregion' in that you can change the region with the remote. I don't think that this is full proof and has certainly been proved by adding a region back in. My other player is true 'Multiregion' in that it doesn't have a built in decoder, this plays ALL of my back-ups.
It could be that the ripping programs don't hit the mark each time when it comes to stripping out regions and other protection.

sounds like the UDF format is incorrect. many DVD players only read 1.02 while computer programs often use 1.05 unless you specify otherwise. download image tools classic and use it to make a DVD ISO file from your VIDEO_TS folder. Then open the ISO in DVD Decryptor to burn it. if it works you know the problem is with the software you are using to burn it.
I have to say though I wouldn't put it past the media itself just yet. cheap media tends to give problems. -
