  1. Hi all,

I am using win XP professional
    I own a sony dvd-rom ddu1211 series
I use powerDVD 4.0 to play the dvd's

    Problem:

I want to play a dvd that was made to be played in thailand, hong kong, malaysia, singapore, japan on my dvd-rom but I am gettin problems.

    DVD title: Berserk (japan anime)

    What I have tried:

I use a prog called dvd-drive-info and found out that my player has region protection on it. I used DVD genie but dvd-rom would freeze up.
I even tried "DVD region free" and to no avail.

    am I doing something wrong?

  2. I think you would have to update the firmware on your DVD drive. I think that the newer DVD drives place the region check in the firmware of the drive. They do this so that you can't simply install a downloaded program to play all regions. I have never upgraded/changed firmware on my drive though so I can't really offer much more help than this.

:P Hi! It seems we have the same problem.

    My configuration:
    Win XP Pro
DVD Rom TEAC 512 (LOCKED FOR REGION 5 - this is no flashes for its firmware now but I do not want to do it either)
DVDs of zone 2, 4, 1 (now cannot play them cause of the locked dvd-drive)

The only hope for us - DVD Region-free program.

    [url]http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htm

Enables any region code DVD to be played in all software DVD players
Enables any CSS encrypted DVD to be copied in all DVD copy softwares
Removes region code (RC) from DVDs
    Removes encryption (CSS) from DVDs
Removes region code enhancement (RCE) from DVDs
Works with all DVD drives, including region-protected (RPC2) DVD drives

BUT this is always the "BUT". This is a shareware program (~$40) and for me it is quite a problem. I am about to adrress to everybody for help - maybe someone can e-mail me the DVD Region free v2.18 or any other KEYS - I would be really appriciated.

  5. Another solution (temporary while you figure out how to make your DVD drive region-free) is to rip the DVD contents to your hard disk using a software like DVD decrypter, which gets rid of the region protection.

Then play the IFO/VOB files from your HD using PowerDVD.

    Cheers
