    Hi guys and girls,

I need help. I downloaded some avi's and when I run gspot it tells me there is no audio. But when I open Windows media player it says there is 55 minutes of audio and it shows video at 352x288 and 3 frames a second data rate of 37kbs video sample size 1 bit and video compression uncompressed. I cant get it to play in media player or anything else I have. What do I need to do to get these stupid videos to play. I am really confused. Also when I ran gspot and I have rendered it says the video is avi splitter. Does avi splitter drop the sound but then I dont get a picture out of it either. I have never used avi splitter so not sure how that got there. WHen I opened it in Divx player is says I may need a fourcc but i have that codecs loaded. I would appreciate any help.

  2. you could try loading the file into virtualdub and then click file/file information and it will tell you the compression codec used for video and audio. then you will know if you have the appropriate codecs installed. if all else fails you could demux the audio (assuming there is an audio stream) and see if the audio will play seprate the video. if it does, try muxing the video and audio back together. there are really a million and one ways to deconstruct the situation. the key words here are *downloaded some avi's* you never know what you will get.

Thanks hoola. The 3 files I am talking about I followed your advice and none of them show that there is any audio in them. Guess I will try again. Thanks for the help.

  4. If you downloaded these avis from some P2P network like Kazaa, and they won't play, chances are they are fakes.
