  1. Dear Baldrick,
    I have a new PIV 1.9 with 512 MB of PC800 RDRAM.
Jumping around this forum, I see encoding times which are much faster than my machine.
I have a 28:1 encoding time, with the following settings, with AVI PAL DV RT2000 file:

    Stream type: MPEG-2
    Size: 720x576
    Aspect ratio: 4:3
    Frame rate: 25 (for PAL)
Bit Rate control: 2-Pass VBR (for best quality)
    Average: 6000
    Maximum: 8000
    Minimum: 0
Profile and level: MP@ML (DVD standard)
    Video format: PAL
    Encode mode: Interlace
    YUV format: 4:2:0
DC component precision: 10 bits (for best quality)
    Motion search: Highest quality
    Video source type: Interlace
    Field order: bottom
    Source aspect ratio: 4:3
    GOP structure: 1/5/2
    Closed GOP: off.
Output interval of GOP header: 1
    Detect scene change: checked
    Force picture type: no
    Matrix: Mpeg standard
    Floating point DCT: checked

When I use LSX I have 12:1 encoding time with maximum quality settings (same as above when applicable)

Could there be something I don't check or that I undue check?
I obviously check SSE-2 and SSE in processor configuration.
I was expecting something like 5-6:1 encoding time.
When I set quality to Motion Estimate encoding time shorts to 6:1.
I hope that somebody could explain all of this **** to me.
And that I haven't burned 1,000 USD of new mobo-proc-ram - I have chosen PIV only to have SSE-2 with TMPGENC
    Thanks in advance.
    Paolo
